Jerry Laguerre
Jerry Laguerre is a sports layout/copy editor for The Record/Herald News in Hackensack, N.J. On any given night, Jerry can be found editing, slotting, putting together agate pages, laying out inside pages, designing the cover or managing the section. In 2007, Jerry began playing a larger role in management with weekly shifts as the night sports editor, where he was responsible for supervising the overall production of the section. In 2001, he graduated cum laude from Seton Hall, where he was editor of the school paper (The Setonian), with a bachelor’s degree in communications. After graduating, he spent the summer of ‘01 interning at The Dallas Morning News, where he did stints editing copy for the news, metro and sports sections.

Stokely Baksh
Stokely Baksh is a multimedia journalist hailing from Washington D.C., who has spent many mornings in Congress. At Columbia, Baksh focused on investigative reporting through multimedia as a Stabile Fellow and New Media major. Prior to graduate school, Baksh worked for the non-profit journalism organization Center for Public Integrity, newswire United Press International under the technology and business desks, and Indymedia. At age 20, she went to Guyana, not to be mistaken for Ghana, where she researched death squads. Most recently, she was a News21 Fellow, partnering with Feltz to look into legislation that requires voter applicants to prove their citizenship. Also a graduate of American University, Baksh returns there Fall 2008 as a post-graduate fellow in the School of Communication’s new Investigative Reporting Workshop. Crystal Proenza
A graduate of Columbia University, Crystal got her start in editorial by writing for NJ newspapers at the Hudson Reporter. She worked for Scholastic Inc. for three years before making a jump into real estate when she took the position of associate editor for The Cooperator newspaper, a condo and co-op monthly with editions in NYC, NJ and New England. She currently serves as associate editor of a real estate magazine in Florida and Southeast Bureau Chief for a premiere commercial real estate website.

Amanda Koch
Amanda Koch is the Production Manager for Law Journal Press, an imprint at Incisive Media, Inc. She has worked in legal publishing for the last eight years. She has previously written lifestyle articles for a number of publications. She is a 2000 graduate of Seton Hall University, and later went on to earn her MS in Publishing at New York University. Amanda also enjoys sports, and is a dedicated team member of her corporate volleyball and soccer teams. She lives in downtown Jersey City.

Lauren Sandkuhler
Lauren Sandkuhler is the Photo Coordinator and part-time photographer for National Journal magazine, responsible for daily workflow and organization of photography and illustration. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County in December of 2006 with a degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in photography. Before coming to National Journal, Lauren interned with several photographers in the Baltimore and DC area. This experience provided her the opportunity to photograph events such as President Gerald Ford’s funeral, the 2007 State of the Union address, and Al Gore’s testimony before Congress about Global Warming. Lauren has done local freelance work as well.

Asif Baksh
Asif Baksh is a web and database developer who hails from New York City. He currently works for a non-profit by day and freelances as a web designer by night. He manages his personal website, www.axiomacity.com, that is a vehicle for his client portal, freelance web design, and his tech and political blog. Baksh graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in Computer Science from Pace University. His other interests include emerging trends in web 2.0 data driven applications, photography, and design elements that include taking a simple but cutting-edge approach to web development.

Doug Carroll is a newspaper editor in Wisconsin. Previously he worked for the Arizona Republic as an education reporter and an assistant features editor while he covered family/relationships issues and popular music. He previously worked for the Chicago Tribune and St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and he was an instructor at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and makes his home in Chandler, Arizona.

Renee Feltz
Renee Feltz was introduced to journalism in the listener-sponsored, commercial-free environment of the Pacifica radio network. She founded the news department at KPFT in Houston, Texas, where her focus on under-represented voices led her to interview more than 25 men and women on Texas Death Row. During Hurricane Katrina she coordinated national coverage for the network and traveled to New Orleans to interview immigrants as they rebuilt the city without protective gear. She has also reported for the BBC, CBC, FSRN, Air America, Making Contact, The Texas Observer, Mother Jones, Indymedia, and The Indypendent. She graduated in 2008 from the Columbia School of Journalism, where she was a fellow in the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, concentrating on video production and writing. Renee recently reported as a fellow for News21, the Knight-Carnegie Foundation’s new media incubator program. She currently freelances in print, radio and video production and is based in New York City.
